I honestly don't care about the local political agenda of whoever wants whoever else off here. Doesn't concern me. Not my forum to administrate - I'm a guest here, I'm grateful to whoever provides this place, and I don't trouble with them with my views about who should bugger off. You'll note that more than a few make such opinions known about either you or me. And it's not me. Doesn't bother me in replying to yours' or anyone else's posts. |

Well, I'll label this OT.Honestly, you're way too wrapped up in politics here. Not my job to influence or police anyone here. I have some conversations, make some points, enjoy myself in a debate or two, maybe learn a thing or two, and have a nice cup of tea (or two). You seem to treat this place as a recipe for hypertension; there are things in this world to get worked up about - the politics of an online forum sure as hell isn't one of them! Seeing firsthand how concerned you are about Ron, well, in the words of another reply to you, 'Practice what you preach'.... |

"Moreover, you don't have to take the word of foamers for it. Listen to the MTA. They recently promised to make escalator and elevator performance better, and recognized its a longstanding problem. That recognition alone has taken a long time to materialize, but its a positive step. In a news story on the same, I also recall an MTA official also recognizing that escalator renovations took too long, and that too needed updating. This was around the time when the ability to check to see what's actively working came online. "That much is true. MTA did say that. "WMATA, a much newer system, to be sure, has lots of escalators, some of them very long given the construction of their system, and I've noticed they seemed to have a rather better record on escalators." WMATA's decision not to put canopies over their escalators led to extensive outages due to snow and ice. There was extensive reporting about that too. Also, WMATA has the advantage of shuttingh down completely between 1AM and 5AMor so. Any system which is not a 24/7 operation has an advantage over 24/7 system. Still, if WMATA is doing better o escalators (that's possible), the opposite is true with their trains. Ironic isn't it? The escalator's working but the train breaks down more often. In New York, you run into a problem with the escalator, but you can count on the train. |

So you like tea?I like tea? I drink black tea, different flavors...spearment, orange, peach, raspberry, vanilla caramel, vanilla almond, vanilla hazelnut, regular. I admit that gree tea doesn't appeal to me, nor does herbal. White tea (young tea leaves of the same plant that gives you "black tea") is pretty tasty. |

Problem is this:In the NYC stations where the escalators are a necessity not luxury, they have the most problems. 63/Lex is a station that needs escalators, and they breakdown often. Parsons/Archer is also pretty deep, and they breakdown constantly. You don't know how many times I've walked from the J at Parsons which is on the lower level, all the way up to the street without a working escalator. I'm young, but I feel bad for those older people coming home from a hard days work, having to perform an unscheduled step aerobics class that their doctor wouldn't recommend. |

No one is playing victim. Maybe "locked out" is not the proper term.Inconvenienced is accurate. Lefferts Blvd, 168, are two excellent example of stations where a well-meaning passenger may want to buy a Metrocard and be denied by the MVM. These customers will then have to walk back up the stairs, cross several streets, and walk several blocks to access the system through an entrance with a token booth clerk. By then you'll miss your train. If you think this is cool, then good for you. |

What you don't understand, is that one can love trains, and hate the New York City Transit Authority. It's easy to develop this attitude. Just spend most of your adult life being a passenger every day(especially nights and weekends). If that isn't enough, try working for them. When you get a job with Transit, especially RTO, the first thing you need to do is buy a car. Transit bounces you all over the city at all hours of the night. You need a car when you're a new Train Operator. |

My own observation has been that the smaller vending machines are more reliable than their larger cousins. This was also relayed to me by a 'burgundy' station agent, who on seeing two straight larger machines unable to handle my transaction, suggested that I should try the smaller machines. I did.
