"when far more worthy philathropic causes also need money?"That's your personal value judgment, not shared necessarily by others. In my view, contributing money to the critical utility that gets you to work and maintained your standard of living far outstrips handing money to a charity. Get to your job and you can donate your own money to whatever charity you want. |

I blame the egg."The problem is a construction boom that has driven costs through the roof here in New York. Recently, the MTA received just a single bid on major construction work for this project, and that bid was more than $450 million over budget. As a result, the MTA is going back to the drawing board on the project's design, though it will continue moving forward on all the underground work, which will create easier connections among the nine subway lines that converge here." And that's all that is needed. There is no need for a grand headhouse. As long as it's functional, it's good enough. That's what mass transit is supposed to do, be functional. |

Every change they have made since the 70s is for the worse except for the curve to 125th/Park and the many transfers there. Deep tunneling instead of cut-and-cover for the whole route including the Christie segment for one. Cut-and-cover could have left more provisions for an extra two tracks. The only segment that should be TBM is 57th to about 14th and the Water St segment. |

Nassau St is too narrow for 2 tracks plus a platform, all on the same level.Of course, if we're bulldozing a block of downtown property for an invisible egg, we might as well bulldoze one side of Nassau Street, and improve the street to a sensible width, like it should have been 80-ish years ago. |

There can be a 50 story building on that site, and it can have a grandiose subway entrance that is visually distinct from the rest of the building. This wouldn't be a real head house, but it could serve, and look, that function. You mean putting the architectural detailing on the front of the station? Not on the top?
