With a few exceptions I prefer the newer cars. I like cars with sleek designs, door chimes, smooth rides, automated announcements, strip maps, and aesthetically pleasing interiors. Cars like the R160 are superior to older predecessors like the R42. The R46 is a better car than the R32 since it has a smoother ride and better design. The R142 has a smoother ride than the R62. There are a few sentimental favorites (R40, Redbird, BMT D-Type Triplex) but newer is always better. |

I like the R46's and 62s and 68s and the new tech cars. The "slants' represent a unique style and are important in the history of subway transit (as are the R32s) so I hope a married pair are retained by the Transit Museum (and at least one R32 should be retained as well). |

This is made quite obvious by the following example: Joe has proposed that 1+1 should now be equal to 3. When asked why people should accept this, he says that he just came up with the idea. Since it is newer than the idea that 1+1=2, it must be better. |

So I guess you can't write to ACF, Pullman or any of the old time domestic railcar producers. Railcar manufacturing is now an international marketplace as far as producing NYCT subway cars goes. You won't find many domestic builders left. Most production comes from companies abroad, some which have opened plants here in the US for producing locally. Sorta like Kawasaki has done (producing your new tech cars) in the last two decades or so. I think Budd might still be around. |

Now that would've been cool to have if it came to pass, an IND/BNT version of the R-15's! I can't imagine an 1,000 car order of any R-Series type during the 50's and 60's, since there was still so many of the older cars still around at the time. Of course if the IND Second System existed at that time, or at the very least was being built, then it increases the likelihood that there would've been larger car orders. |

Well, they aren't boxy enough. They need corrugated ridges on the roofs, roofs that are squared, not rounded at the sides. The corrugations on the R-32's are opposite of the style on freight boxcars, which usually have them as vertical ridges--the R-32's have horizontal ridges. And Boxcars don't have windows. So I don't see how Nutz's analogy about the R-32's imitating boxcars is accurate, they don't come close. |

They're antiquated. The boxcar style is over. Corrugations are not a good look for a subway car, particulary those that cover the entirely outer body--partial corrugation on a rapid transit rail car is an minor aesthetic improvement. With this poor imitation of boxcars, those R32's are almost as ugly as those Slants. |

The train cars are primarily a product of the times. The R32 was most likely considered "state-of-the-art" at that time (1964). The 1970s brought about the state of the art R44s which of course were a product of their times, with the orange and yellow bucket seats, wallpaper, faux cherry wood paneling and fuzzy carpeting. And the R32s don't even look too bad in the system after over 40 years in service but they are aging at quite a fast rate. |

It is definitely not one of my favorite cars. While they're still holding up, their era is drawing to a close. |

Yes, I admit that they still function--very well for an aging fleet, much better than those Slants and R44's. At least Budd was revolutionary enough and had enough foresight to make subway cars out of stainless steel and not that deteriorating laht that those Redbirds, R16's and other old 50's-60's era IRT and IND/BMT had. |

That's right, R-32's rule! Now that's one fleet I wouldn't mind seeing 1,000 cars running all over the B Division. The Slants may look cool, but at times that slanted design makes them look out of place compared to the other rolling stock. |

Laht is cheaper and is also cool car body shell to work with. For example, you can paint on it. |

How could I what? Those R32's may look good to you, but that corrugated design is tacky. The stainless steel bodies is the only thing going for them, and other than their refurbished look from the GOH, and the shop personnel at Jamaica and Piktin doing their best to take care of the, is the reason why they're still in service; if they were laht like those R27/R30's, R16's and those A Division Redbirds, they would be retired by now. As for the Slants, that design did nothing for NYCT whatsoever, except an attempt to futurize the look of the subway car, a design that later was deemed not practical that the remainder of the order was not given the slant treatment, and thus the R40 mod-ihorrors or what I call aesthetically correct slants, were born. |

What colorful experience? Being a Redbird, or a broken down graffited R16, a green antiquated R10 or those worn out R12/14/15/17/21/22's on the A Division that were on their last legs, befor being put out of their misery? |
