There was a connection between what is now MNRR and the IRT.

Inside Grand Central Terminal there was on the lower level loop a single track that connected with the IRT. August Belmont built the connection so that his private train (The Mineola) could travel from the Hotel Belmont to Belmont Racetrack.

The train would connect from the IRT to the LIRR just before Atlantic Avenue.
