The SIRT only has rapid transit cars on it because the MTA urgently needed to replace the ancient B&O cars running the on the SIRT and the R44s were seen as the quickest option at the time

I already linked one of numerous pix of the LIRR's MP72s on the SIR. Those were not so ancient.
