I know. I'm not making the argument that the SIR is a commuter line, I'm stating it operates more like a commuter line than a rapid transit line.

I differentiate the two fairly easily. When I leave for the train station, if I'm headed to take a specifically scheduled train, it's commuter. If I just want to take a particular route, it's R.T. On Friday, I took the 7:36 out of Hoboken to Gladstone, but I never even bothered to see which train on the PATH schedule I took to get from Manhattan to Jersey.

IIRC, SIR also has peak short-turns and trains which skip some stations, like a commuter railroad.
