'As to Queens though, they got all the new and shiny'I often wondered why in the last days of the R-1/9s, the BMT eastern div got the latest models of pre war equiptment( #1600-1802), repainted inside & out & outfitted with those gray backbreaking, hemmorriod harming seats while the Queens Blvd line stayed with the older R series cars (# 900-1300), unrepainted with the old wicker seats?? On the surface of it, it would have made more sense to have the "newer" R-9s working the more heavily used QB line assuming that the R-9s would hold up better being somewhat newer.
