Many of the R-7s and 9s assigned to the BMT East were among the groups refitted with varying degrees of new piping with rebuilt compressors , cleaned piping with rebuilt compressors, cleaned piping with new compressors and new piping and new compressors. They were initially renumbered with numbers A00 through E99 and the letters of the various groups indicated what type of brake system overhaul the cars had. The temporary numbers were pasted over the original numbers with black numbers on white background. These cars were actually on the Queens IND until their transfer to the BMT when their original numbers were restored. |
