Yes, but it was sort of industrial, nothing like it is now. There was no "mall". Macy's had a storage facility, and a "bargain basement" for furniture, etc, but not really a "store". There was a siding that came in from the LIRR Montauk Branch, circled through what is now the parking lot down there, and went into a HUGE door where Levitt's is now (was - I don't know if Levitts is still there). The trains could pull right into the building, the tracks went INTO the building. I have seem photos of MP15's coming out of the building.
When they first made Metro Mall down there in the late 80's, the siding was still circled through the parking lot, except it wasn't in use, and you could park on the tracks (they were like trolley tracks by that point). At some point they resurfaced the lot in the mid 90's, and all traces were removed, although for a while the tracks lasted in the back, and near where the big huge door was.

When Metro Mall opened, Waldbaums moved downstairs, Pergament moved down there, and Sears Brand Central appliance stores were the big stores downstairs. Sears Brand Central had a cool little record/tape store I used to always go to.
The downstairs was never really meant to be retail like it is now.
