Yes, it was originally indistrial, and the retail was a later addition. When I first came to the area, Levitz wasn't there, and you had partially paved over tracks going up to the building in that area!Yes, where Levitz is was once Macy's warehouse. I don't know if that was open to the public or not. The train used to actually go DIRECTLY into the building there. The tracks went up to a huge rollup door, and that would be opened to let the entire train into the building. I have seen photos of LIRR MP15's coming out of the building after dropping frieght cars into it. The building is HUGE. Like you said there is so much space. |
