It was several eyewitnesses, plus all the people I mentioned earlier. do you really think a former FBI director (and federal judge) would speak on behalf of a convicted cop-killer otherwise? |

I think Davis is innocent for all the reasons I outlined previously. You think that he's innocent because a former FBI director, Jimmy Carter and the Pope said so? He may well have been, but I don't see those as compelling. Who really knows if the witnesses are lying now or then? And what about the witnesses that didn't recant. How is it that 9 witnesses would have colluded to convict an innocent man to death and then 22 years later change their minds? |

Several witnesses said they were pressured or coerced into naming Davis as the killer. One such witness, for example, later stated in an affidavit that he was on parole, and was threatened with jail if he didn't finger Davis, another said she was threatened with the removal of her kids. I think the DA wanted a quick conviction in the high-profile case of a cop-killing, and he brought his prosecutorial weight to bear to see that it happened. The South is a strange place; they do things differently there. |

That every single witness was black. That a black kid was shot by Davis just before the cop was shot or that the casings in each shooting are a match. Or that Davis got affidavits from people who recanted, but never used the affidavits in appeal because they were so weak they would never have held up. |

What the Nazi's did was starve, torture and enslave people based on factors such as religion. They performed unspeakable medical experiments on many. They sought, not to punish people for crimes that they committed but to eradicate entire cultures. Those same Nazi's were caught and tried in courts of law for their "crimes" and found guilty. Now, please show me how the state of Georgia, executing one person who was found guilty of murder in a court of law was equivalent to the systematic murder of 12 million Jews, and other "unsuitable" groups. Your comments are pathetic - worthy of our resident anti-Semite from upstate. |

It is a sad state of affairs. While I'm pro death penalty (because creatures like these need killing), I believe the case should always be airtight. In an age where you have DNA testing, there is no reason it should not be required where relevant in capital cases. The prosecution should have an airtight case to get a death penalty conviction. |

Capital punishment is an abhorrent thing that serves no interest of justice at all.Locking people up is worse. Where did Brewer meet King? He went into prison a druggie and came out a burglar, a violent white supremacist, and a murderer. (And yes, it really is a classic case of why prosecuting drug users is not in the public interest.) And life without parole is a cop-out. It's capital punishment with an increased risk of escape. |

I have previously established my opposition to CP.I'm ambivalent about it. I don't like the idea, but there are certain crimes where it is hard to think of any just alternative: 1) Treason 2) Murder, aggravated by one or more of the following: - murder and rape - murder and torture - murder and robbery - using a firearm or explosives - whilst resisting arrest or escaping from custody - of an on-duty police officer - of a prison officer by an inmate - the second of two or more murders - the clear intent to commit a second murder, for instance due to the first one being motivated by prejudice against a group of people |
