No gun was ever recovered in the killing of McPhail, but prosecutors linked shell casings found at the scene to an2. Witnesses who "placed Davis at the scene" on the night of the shooting, have, in fact, recanted their statements, and several jurors, according to numerous sources (including the article linked above) have reportedly "changed their minds" about Davis' guilt. 3. Fifty-one members of Congress, a former President, and Pope Benedict XVI have all spoken out against Davis' execution. It seems highly unlikely that all of these figures would intercede on behalf of a convicted, black cop-killer, unless they were certain of his innocence. Even former FBI director William sessions has said there is grave doubt concerning Davis' guilt in this case. 4. Where are you getting this information that "no one can talk to the witnesses"? They have publicly recanted themselves, more than once. 5. People DO get executed, even when there is serious doubt of their guilt. Consider the case of Claude Jones, the last man executed in Texas under then-Gov. George W. Bush. A strand of hair that allegedy put Jones at the crime scene of a fatal liquor-store robbery, and used as evidence against him in his case, turned out NOT to be his, after all. Jones had asked for DNA testing to be done, but Bush's staff never made the governor aware of this, and it wasn't carried out until after the execution. 6. Food for thought: The United States ranks fifth in the world in the number of executions it performs, putting it in the company of countries like #1 China, #2 Iran, #3 N. Korea, #4 Yemen #6 Saudi Arabia, #7 Libya #8 Syria. It is very telling to note that among these eight countries, the US is the ONLY democracy, and regularky takes all of the other countries to task for their human-rights records. Something to consider, no? |
