If you live in a neighborhood with houses that cost $2 million or more, then you really don't have to worry about "minorities." Right. That's part of the fear people in that rundown section of Howard Beach have. They feel they have carved out a quiet little neighborhood where you don't have people blasting Wisin and Yandel at night, walking around with doo-rags and pitbulls, and all that in your face hip-hop culture stuff.I've seen so many quiet working class areas and apartment buildings in Queens transformed into "el Barrio". When I say "working class" I mean middle to lower middle class. That's who is most vulnerable. People in Little Neck or Great River probably don't have to worry about neighbors who blast music or walk around with a pitbull to look bad ass. And I didn't even get into the impact on schools. |

You hit the nail on the head. "Cultures".My friend lives in the apartment complex at 116th Street and Curzon in Richmond Hill, just blocks from legendary Chat photographer RPanse. The apartment complex is mostly Hispanic now. At first, it was Jewish, with Russians and gays moving in over the years. They have been replaced by Hispanics. Pitbulls. Loud music, especially during the summer. Not all Hispanics are into all that stuff, but when you have about 300 apartments and rent 1/2 to Hispanics, you're going to get the loud music, pitbull types, which can make even the most tolerant liberal want to move. |

Vermont is pretty close and that's where folks are going. Vermont is flashy.That and, I suspect that's considerably easier to build anything in Vermont in lieu of dealing with what chunks are land are left in private hands in the Adirondacks or Catskills. The proles ski in the Poconos, people with money go up to Vermont or New Hampshire or they fly out West or to the Alps. In contrast, if one likes a rustic and somewhat austere summer session out in the wilderness, then NYS may be a bit better. Otherwise, I'm still trying to figure out the draw for tourism anywhere else outside of the Long Island - NYC - Hudson Valley regions for NYS. |

It's sort of a Guido 'Jersey Shore" type of people there, and while Shirley is far from "high class", it's not "Guido".Shirley has a different sort of guido. He is similiar to the South Jersey or Westerly, RI guido. The Howard Beach guido is comparable to the Staten Island, Saugus, MA or Cranston, Rhode Island guido. Then you have the urban Bensonhurst or old school Belmont, Bronx guidos who are similiar to the Philly, North End of Boston or Medford, MA guido. members of the Shirley/Mastic species of guido are universally rejected by the continental guidos when trying to socialize or mate. (see the sordid events of the Le Affaire Amy Fisher/Joey Buttafuoco for more info) The Franklin Square guido is hard to define but they tend to reproduce with Queens semi-guidos, especially those from the Whitestone area. |

It includes the study of genetic and environmental variables, linguistics and form or communication, grooming and feeding preferences as well as the everchanging motivations, aspirations, thought processes and methods that make one a well-rounded guido or guidette. |

Heh. Being hip to three out of four,You were born and raised on the Continent since birth so it's easy to guess which species you have repelled and which you have accepted. You adversity to the Mastic/Shirley class of guidos is mainly environmental and would probably not damage membership in your genus if limited to only one generation. The problem would arise with inbreeding unless limited to the physical territory of City Island. |

Albany would be worse if it didn't have state government propping it up. Nobody wants to work for the public sector there, but the private sector is overwhelmed because demand has outpaced supply forever.Of course, in a city that has had only 3 mayors in 70 years and all but openly gives priority to married people for employment, who would want to settle down there? |
