Never had any problems with people purposely vandalizing my car, but when I lived in Queens my car was broken into a few times, and even stolen once, but that was way back in the late 80's early 90's.The other day I was in Brooklyn and I had terrible time trying to find a spot because of all the snow mounds. I finally find a spot after about 15 minutes of searching and was so happy. I get out of my car, and begin walking away and all of a sudden, I hear a couple fighting in a 3rd floor apartment and all of sudden stuff is flying out of the window from the 3rd flood. Clothes, and all kinds of stuff. All of a sudden solid stuff is flying out the window, and of course, there's my car parked in front of this building. I said, "Oh for Christ's sake"....and thought there's no way in hell I am leaving my car in front of this building with this crazy couple screaming and fighting at eachother and throwing stuff out the window, so got back in, and abandoned the spot....took another 10 minutes to find another spot, and this time it was a spot that was caked in over a foot of snow, but I have a 4 wheel drive SUV, so figured I would attempt it and got in. If I had a regular car, I never would have gotten into it. But at least FINALLY i was parked after over a 1/2 hour. The snow is terrible there right now. |

People's values certainly have changed. For one, people cannot scream "nigger", "fag" or "hymie" with impunity and few people want to do so. Women are welcome in the workplace. Only a tiny proportion of people up here would condone legal proscriptions against the things you've named (especially what people do in the privacy of their homes) on principle, though there is a NIMBY issue on sex establishments. |

If I am mistaken, I apologize. I'm just questioning whether the generalization that Hispanics are less tolerant of gays than whites is true. Maybe it is, but it doesn't seem to be on the same level as with blacks. At least not in LA, most of the rest of the US, nor in the Caribbean and Africa from what I know. |

I'm confused too. I thought GOP was less about gov't intrusion (or at least local control over state/federal control) and personal freedoms, yet they come up with this platform in that state that basically governs your bedroom activities, who you are allowed to mate with (to the point of making it illegal!), what women can do with their bodies, what kind of business you can run, etc...on a state level.I dunno anymore...but why not fous on the real issues at hand. I care more about jobs, economic development, and getting people off of programs like welfare than whether my neighbor plows his lady or gentleman up the poop shoot. |

Criminalizing homosexuality all over again is a longtime goal of the GOP in Texas, Utah, Montana, and Mississippi. Texas, Utah, Wyoming, Mississipi, and Arizona are all looking to get Lawrence v. Texas overturned so they can start throwing gays in jail for things like kissing in public or holding hands, to say nothing of gay men or women having sex.You would think these states have more important matters to attend tom but THEY don't. |

I made the 50s generalization because that was a time period when many of these laws were on the books and being enforced. Over the course of the last 60 years, we realized that government intrusion on the bedroom wasn't necessary and slowly (either by legislative means or the courts) have shot down many of these laws. Now that the GOP is in full throttle challenge the federal government and rip apart the Constitution mode, there are going to be a lot more of this type of crap introduced in state legislatures throughout the country. |
