There is homophobia in the Latino community.I understand the answer, but was that ever a question? We were discussing whether homosexuality was "much more frowned upon" with Hispanics than it is with whites. Note that the countries south of the border aren't are a monolithic "brown nation"; each has their own culture and customs (albeit of course there are similarities). That's why I mentioned Mexican. I don't know that it's the same in all Hispanic cultures, but Mexicans are often stereotyped as being among the most macho. And like I said IINM several Latin countries have passed gay marriage laws. If I am mistaken, I apologize. I'm just questioning whether the generalization that Hispanics are less tolerant of gays than whites is true. Maybe it is, but it doesn't seem to be on the same level as with blacks. At least not in LA, most of the rest of the US, nor in the Caribbean and Africa from what I know. |
