You are one hundred percent correct. Black gay males endure some of the most heartless abuse I've seen in this life, my own included. The black church, the black family, and the mores of the black community perpetuated by these create an environment that is highly toxic and sometimes fatal to black gay men.I've worked with cops, EMT's and firefifghers for 20 years. I can say without reservation that none of them are as brave as a very close friend of mine, a feminine black gay man. If he weighs 120 lbs. soaking wet, that's saying something. Yet, he goes out every day, living as he IS, completely incapable of defending himself, knowing full well someone might just kill him for being who he IS. That's courage. |
