Metro just has better branding for the Rapids maybe.The Rapids and locals share some stops, but normally they are on opposite sides of an intersection to avoid having multiple buses at the same spot at the same time. |

I read up on the Bx12 and Bx12 SBS and I was surprised at how busy that route is. The busiest route in LA is probably Wilshire Blvd and the MTA runs more buses on the Bx12/Bx12 SBS than the LACMTA runs on the 20 and 720. If Santa Monica is added in they might be close, but the Bx12 isn't even NYC's busiest bus line. Is it even in the top 5? |

If they can get funding the MTA would most definitely be interested in overseeing the construction and operating it.I'd suspect that for logistical reasons, the MTA would probably be the lead partner in terms of paying capital costs, but, New Jersey Transit would assume the role of operator given that it's an extension of NJT's light rail system.It's similar to how Metro-North basically pays New Jersey Transit to operate the West of Hudson services, and while Metro-North pays for it's own fleet (or shifts cars from West of Hudson to East of Hudson as needed) but it serves in the NJT pool and receives service at Meadowlands Maintenance instead of Croton-Harmon. |

They could pay NJT to operate and maintain it, but I don't see why the MTA would give up revenue and the chance to employ more workers and instead pass more of the money to NJT. Sooner or later one side would complain. Better to have each of them take care of their own side of the line and have their own crews. It's not that big of a problem logistically I don't think. |

Even the trackage in New York* on the Pasacack Valley Line is owned by New Jersey culminating in a yard north of the Spring Valley station. The Port Jervis Line, OTOH, is leased by Metro-North from Norfolk-Southern, but IIRC, the maintenance of the ROW and cars is done by NJT since it's fundamentally easier for NJT to perform all of that work than for the MTA to build duplicate facilities and operating schedules for employees. *NJT also stores trains in Morrisville, PA just over the Delaware River from Trenton, NJ but unlike the state of New York, Pennsylvania has no desire to pay for a station on their side of the river in the yard. but they might like the additional jobs that would come with operating and maintaining their tracks I'd imagine that NYCTA would prefer to let NJT operate given that NJT operators earn slightly less than their NYCTA counterparts. NJT (or its contractor) gets the headache of dealing with their fringe benefits as well... |
