Perhaps some don't know that until 1933 African-Americans were among the most loyal Republican voters. They even voted for Herbert Hoover in the 1932 landslide victory of FDR, then turned the page and became strong Democrats over the next four generations. The Republicans blew it when they started talking in ways that were interpreted as being less than concerned about black people and we have been paying the price since. This election saw black males make deep inroads into the GOP and the aim is keep working hard to make this movement more than a trickle but instead a hurricane. Unfortunately, we aren't making much hay with African-American women and that is going to be a tough haul for us Republicans to over come.

The fact is Goldwater got only 5% of black votes, culminating a move by African American voters who moved into the Democrat Party starting in 1933----and it makes no difference in your assertion since conservatives took over the GOP around 1962-63, and it had nothing to do with Rinos. Moderate, Rino, conservative, the fact is our party was literally poison to the blacks. So what I wrote is not only not completely false it is historically true. I taught US history in high school for 35 years and you are the first person to disagree with me on that historical fact. Look it up---and let me leave you with this. If my party wants to keep moving up in popularity with African-American voters it is going to have to work hard and support things that they do.....PERIOD!!!!!

That is why the Republican Party has an opportunity to answer the call and work like hell to bring African-Americans into our party. Jobs, educational opportunities, recruiting blacks to run for office in our party, that and showing them that action speak louder than words. The Democrats have taken blacks for granted for decades now while we twiddle our thumbs, talk in platitudes and make little progress with them. We have an opportunity now since many AA see that party for what it is. We must not blow this opportunity.

I taught US history in high school for 35 years and you are the first person to disagree with me on that historical fact Being a history teacher does not give you bona fides, with all due respect. It makes you suspect, in fact. This means you were witness to the alterations in the teaching of history in government-run education and went along with them instead of fighting against them; now this is anecdotal, but I've talked with people who went to HS in the 1950s and 1960s and they said that they were taught that the USA is a "representative republic" and were disgusted when I told them that during the 1980s that high schools taught that the USA is a "representative democracy" instead (yes, they are very different).

My closest friend, Terry, prefers black and I prefer African-American and we get along just fine. And what does this have to do with the subject at hand. I am a rabid Republican but the fact that I am also a strong civil rights advocate seems to befuddle you. Keep in mind that my party was the party of Lincoln, the party of National Unity, the party of union, the party of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, the party of the hunters and imprisonment of the KKK, etc, etc, etc. The fact that we lost the support of these folks still rankles me as a historian and I wish with all my might that before I am called home we keep making inroads with Black Americans because deep within my soul I know they have been taken for a near one way ride by the Democrats. It is high time we let them into our car and take them for the ride that gets them in the run for the American Dream in full force. Over and out!!!!!!
