However, Kaepernick cogently points out that during the Continental Congress' debates on what should go into the Declaration of Independence, the opportunity existed to make the US slavery-free from her inception. The South threatened to walk, and slavery was allowed to remain.Flags say something about the countries they represent, as you astutely noted in your example of the Nazi flag. A Stars and Stripes that stood for a slave nation from border to border (and yes, in 1776, England's flag was the ensign of an entire slave empire), is a reminder that our country was founded while continuing the bondage of people the British Empire placed in chains to begin with. Independence, history records, didn't mean freedom for all. That's the point Kaepernick is making. |

Apparently you didn't see the person walk right by him that was blurred out, whom he walk behind and pointed the gun in that person's direction.Um.. if you had watched the video I sent, you can clearly hear that it was a guy who called.And you just proved my point, you ran around with a toy gun as a kid, and you did not get killed because you probably didn't point it at people's heads as they were walking by! |

No true democracy exists when people are held in slavery. The Founders should have stood firm. A smaller country might have declared its Independence, but it would have been one truer to the ideals she professes in the Declaration. The South would have been unlikely to trade slavery for remaining part of the British Empire. I believe they would have come to a different arrangement, had the Northern colonies chosen to go ahead without them. |
