You're not the first person to suggest that Caitlin's transition was a "publicity stunt". But I wonder about that...transitioning is no small matter, and she did it squarely in the glare of the mass media. As ESPN rightly pointed out when defending their decision to give Caitlin the Arthur Ashe award, Bruce could have "chosen to go off into the sunset, as a historical athletic figure, and nobody would have been the wiser".

Now, I'll concede that the entertainment industry knows no boundaries when it comes to ratings, ticket sales, or other sources of revenue, but I'd be VERY surprised if Caitlyn's transition is nothing more than a side show. If that is the case, she will have set trans acceptance back DECADES. Just sayin'...
