I specifically cited AIS because of how it usually presents: The woman looks and feels completely normal. Many AIS patients don’t know they have the condition until they go to the gynecologist as pre-teens/teens to ask why they haven’t had their first periods yet. No one considers these people not women (since sterility does not make someone not a woman), and yet they have XY chromosomes.Chromosomes in any event were only discovered in the 20th century, so apparently people for most of human history had no way of telling men and women apart. That’s why I consider this genotype-rule that conservatives like to latch onto bullshit. It’s clear that an objective definition of male and female does not include genotype. How would they classify Turner’s Syndrome, Kleinfelter’s Syndrome, Triple-X or XYY? Note that the latter two are usually fertile and may live a long and healthy life, never knowing of their affliction. |
