The recent events tarnishing the railfan community are getting out of hand.

And you know, its not like half of things railfans are doing now haven't been done before, but the fans now don't know how to go about it! Geez, like the R38 rollsign incident, how stupid are you to stay on the train for as long as they did. Just get the shit and get the fuck off the train. Simple as that! I'm not trying to encourage anything here, because enough of that has been done, but transit fans are getting in trouble for the stupidest of reasons these days.

And to add to what Trevor said in another post about TTMG people being the blame for all these things, it makes me laugh things like that are being said. Like really, TTMG is to blame for the whole R40 thing on Brighton, and we're the inspiration to go steal rollsigns, are people serious? They obviously don't know us that well.

Ok, I'm done, thats just my input into this whole mess.

The kid is posing in a phony uniform shirt. It is an attempt to impersonate a NYCT employee. No different than Darius McCollum impersonating an employee. I doubt that this photo was authorized by anyone. It's not a publicity photo to recruit prospective T/O's or anything else of the kind.

You can't legitimize this kid's actions. You can't explain this one away.

1. Why does posting his photo here change anything? If he's doing something bad and you see him doing it, why do you need his photo before calling over a police officer?

Not to put any words in Railman's mouth, but it's the same concept as putting up photos of known pedophiles. If someone has a track record, you observe them more closely. It doesn't mean Railman will immediately call the cops when he spots the person in question, but it does mean that he will be more vigilant in watching him when he sees him.

Hope this clarifies things somewhat without offending anyone.

In the linking of the R62's, the low digits are 1 and 6. He is in car 1576, an end car, but he could be at the other end conceivably. Doubtful since the "post" behind him is scratched. So he is either operating (don't see a brake handle so he's not), at a c/r position, or in the rear cab (probable). If he were impersonating an employee or not with the non regulation shirt and regulation vest, the rulebook reads that even an off duty or deadheading employee is not to ride in an unoccupied cab. The only people allowed in cabs of a train in passenger service are the operating crew and supervision.

I lived in Manhattanville projects right across the street from Manhattanville depot, and still have family in there.
It is not an exaggeration. I don't even wear my dispatcher badge in the project when visiting my family. At night you can look out the window, which I have done, and see people shooting at night.

Railman is a T/O. Please explain how he can watch him at all, never mind more closely, when he's "on the clock" operating his train.

Bottom line - you see something suspicious, you call it in. The kid was busted for stealing a rollsign, and all the sudden it's like he's now a possible terrorist?? The kid is all over the subway system probably, and openly attends the vintage holiday train rides. It's not like he's a Darius who is officially banned from the system (I believe). Why is such a big deal made over the stupid act of stealing a rollsign, when you have other people, incl. railfans, trespassing all over the system to enter abandoned stations and tunnels and taking and posting photos of said exploits. Those exploits could get them killed, and could potentially mess up the life of a T/O who hits them. To ME, that's far worse than anything this kid is bound to graduate from after getting busted for stealing a rollsign. Don't forget, he doesn't seem to be the brightest criminal. What does everything think he's gonna successfully think up and carry out???

This whole thing is so stupid.

Not a TA issued shirt it's off-colored. Also the patch is older than the shirt it appears to be a liitle worn the shirt looks new and crisp. I don't belive that the blue shirts have the patch on the other side, just the T/O shirts have them. Just IMO, but access and the picture are still distrubing to me as an MTA employee.
