its 2006 and people still place insane restrictions on themselves based on some made up books from thousands or years ago.

The Torah is not made up. It was written by G-d. And living your life by it is a beautiful way to live. You hate because you don't understand. Try reading it (and understanding it, with the help of a Rabbi if need be) before you pass judgment.
