They can be most impressive. One of the things I did during my in between shifts layovers at Coney was hanging out in the shops and watching them tear them down, grind the wheels, replace them on the axles, pull motors and dozens of other truly remarkable things as part of the routine maintenance. What was difficult to fathom at first is that a pair of trucks is the majority of a subway car's operating weight. |

It was an add on box atop the dashboard next to the boom mic. If I can get the video digitized, you will be able to see everything including the hostler. The side sign buttons did work to the end if you coded in "21" and pushed start. The signs would roll the newer strip maps to the end and stop since the original maps were coded to stop upon reaching the terminals keyed in on the console. |

This is an original P-wire controller, and not the current Westcode, you're talking about, right? Because it was seeing all the old controllers at Livingston (including an old Celeston from a trolley!); I was hoping they would have an original 44/46 control panel, but didn't see any, and wondered why; and it was then I began wondering if any were saved anywhere. But then you did say it was on loan. Did you loan it to them, like in the last year? (I was last there a year ago for my refresher). |

It could be possible he put the reverser in neutral and coasted, somehow, if that's even possible...Wierdest thing I've ever seen was an M train moving forward with its taillights on. I know that to this day; there are some 46 and 68 handles (both variations of NYAB) that while in full service; if you take your hand off slowly, it will stay "stuck" down. When dumping (out of full service) it doesn't seem to work; so that is why it was not a cause of alarm for me. And I guess in the past; they were not as safety-strict[ so stuff like that may have been more likely to go unchecked. |

That truck set from the Arnine is an arch-bar type, right ? I read someplace that The FRA has outlawed them on railroads involved in interstate commerce, so if a museum Arnine has to be moved somewhere away from NYC Subway rails, it would have to be on a flatbed truck or on a flatcar. Still, the piece is a marvel of work that did serious duty for years, and I really like the sound of those trains at high speed. |
