Don’t know about FRA but it won’t be too hard to build a transfer near Woodside to Penn Access.

Ther B&P tunnels are supposed to be inthe package. As to the 3 track main S of Baltimore (2 S of the point where the freight byp[ass diverges, I wholly agree the main needs to be fully 4 tracks.

Good first step. FRA compliant cars would mean IBX (Triboro) could share Penn Access tracks across Hell Gate.

Dunno how many of you went to the Transit Exhibit in Grand Central recently, but the previous exhibit was about Metro North's birthday. As part of the exhibit, they had a computer graphic video showing the IBX proposal. They did indeed propose expanding the route south of New Rochelle to 4 tracks, though I don't remember if they extended that to the Hell Gate bridge. What concerns me, though, is that Amtrak has taken advantage of the extra space to smooth out the curves along the route. Does that mean that the MTA will be taking more land, or will Amtrak have to move the location of the tracks?

I don't know about that. I kind of like the Art Deco design of Newark Penn. If the problem is with the homeless, then it just needs some cleaning and sprucing up.

Correction, it wasn't for IBX, it was for East Side Access.

I believe the original Bronx RoW was 6-8 tracks wide, so even smoothing the curves, increasing track centers, and increasing the # of tracks to 4, you should not have any real estate issues.

I am in favor of both better curves and 4 tracks. I was aware that curves had been smoothed; you can see the eidence from a train.

Maybe for a portion of it, like south of E 180th St. But based on Google Maps, up to New Rochelle it looked like 4 tracks wide.
