Ive seen those tubular diaphragms go so far over that you couldn't see into the next car. And the floor plates almost completely separated from the next car.

True, but over the years, many folks have been killed by walking between all classes of cars. So now lets lock all the doors & screw the ambulance chasers.

Locking doors on cars that don’t present any danger doesn’t make much sense. If you look over the years at the incidents of passenger hurt between cars you will find that most of them involved passengers not just crossing but riding between cars and engaging in some sort of illegal activity like smoking or urinating.

Imagine how that would have turned out?

All kinds of scenarios.

T/O or C/R going to investigate to reset cord. Confrontation for sure.

Shooter taking hostage.

Passengers overtake shooter.

Pulled cord would be a different outcome.

It had Pennsylvania plates or it had Arizona plates and it was rented out of Philly? Trucks move all over the country.
But obviously U-Haul would know where it came from, since it was rented legally. But you could rent one and for a surcharge move to California (or name a place) and drop it off there.

You may have a point about him not being "stupid". The cameras at that stations were not working. He might have known that. If thats the case about him knowing about the cameras at that station not working, it might point to this being an "inside" job.
On the other hand, he might have been lucky about the cameras & just he was a head case with an agenda who snapped.

Following this morning’s reports of violence in the @NYCTSubway, we are devastated by the news & our hearts go out to our transit colleagues in NY and everyone impacted. We are working with @SFPD and monitoring the situation locally.

We have contacted the @TSA & confirmed that there is no credible, specific threat for other transit systems. However, we’ve increased our security in and around the Muni Subway.

Please remember, if you see something, say something & call 911 or notify the nearest Muni/SFMTA employee immediately. Don’t be embarrassed to question things that appear not quite right or that make you feel uncomfortable. Trust your instincts. TY!

That's what it could be:

If the gun jammed as said, that kept this from being far worse and that subway car being a WAY worse mess than it was.

And I can NOT rule out a hate crime on this given many of the victims were of Asian descent AND the (N) I believe passes through Brooklyn's Chinatown. Too many Asians have been targets of those who blame THEM for COVID in many cases affecting such who have targeted Asians and/or the families of such who target such, whether through their or a family member suffering severe affects of COVID or suffered a severe economic downturn as a result of COVID shutdowns where they never were made whole (even though those targeted had ZERO to do with the original spread of the virus that happened to originate in China that some of these types still call "The China Virus"). That's why I think it may eventually be proven to be a hate crime with the shooter targeting Asians.

Actually, they have since ruled out terrorism:

As noted in another comment, I think this may prove to be a hate crime, however, given how many Asians were shown to be injured the worst AND given how the (N) goes through Brooklyn's Chinatown as I remember.

At the time there was some deaths causes by stupidity. People riding between cars, doing stupid shit, and dying.

I think it happened on an R-40 Slant in the early 2000's. Prohibited riding or walking between cars signage went up so MTA would have a better change fighting lawsuits.

As a result of this incident and others the rule went in place.

the guy left a manifesto of sorts. Ranted against Mayor Adams and homelessness.

The homelessness part made me think of salaamallah and the suspect does actually resemble him.

But you could be onto something. To plan an attack of this magnitude, he most likely knew "what kind of people" would be on his train.

Maybe he wanted Asians. Maybe he knew the end doors on certain trains are locked.

He just as easily could have gone to the 2, 3, or 4 lines in Brooklyn and the ridership would be mostly black. Russians on the Brighton Line.

Hate crime could be possible.

No rants about Asians or Chinese. He could have shot up a train at Canal Street if he were after them.

He picked a rather quiet residential area, not a iconic place like Times Square, Union Square, or W 4th Street, where a lot of subway disruptions with police action occur.
