The NYC Board of Transportation took over a year to convince the Federal Office of Defense Transportation that the Brooklyn Bridge tracks would be used for streetcars, before it okayed the Park Row, Sands St, and Adams St el removals. |

Traces of it are easy to find.In February 2010, I took my own walking tour in Van Cortlndt Park, and I identified almost the whole ROW from Caryl Avenue to where it joined the "mainline" Put- which is now an official trail (Getty Square Branch is not). If anyone's interested, the easiest way to fund the GSQ branch is to start at the corner of Broadway and Mosholu Avenue, enter the park, and fid the abutments. Then, chose right or left, and climb/follow the embankment. At least in 201, there was still ballast on the overpass over the Saw Mill Parkway |

A sign for the Park Hill Station still existed into the 1990s. It wasn't readable- all the paint was long gone- but its size, shape, and other dimensions matched exactly a sign shown at High Bridge on Page 50 of "The Putnam Division", by Gallo and Kramer.Even that sign was gone by 2010.... But even in 2/2010, an abutment remained at Heriot Place. |

I looked for remnants of the Jerome-Anderson Station in 2008, when I visited he area for work. Wasn't much to see from street level.But I did live in Westchester from 1995- early 1999, and I noticed the stairs by the Deegan Expressway. Seeing those, as well as Gallo and Kramer's "Putnam Division" helped explain a lot. |

My guess is that they convinced the ODT that the steel could be better used in the war effort. Besides, ridership from Queens had declined after the Oct 27th, 1940 closing of the 1939 World's Fair. Almost 6 months later, on May 19th, 1941, late night (from 9:30PM-12:30AM) and Sunday service ended. |
