Also the fact there the new Pitkin Avenue extension was almost ready to be opened for service by November 1948. Figuring a factor in this, the BoT probably decided back then to send all the R-10's out to the "A", and as you had said as their "showcase" subway route because of that.-William A. Hi Everyione, sorry I will not be on a trip itself (din't buy thickets on time, just was busy) ... So can you tell me please, what time aporoximately will it be possible to spot the train at the following stations: Avenue M, Kings Highway, Avenue U, Gravesend Neck Rd?As usual it takes an hour and 6 minutes to travel all the way from 96th street to CI by Q trian; but the trip aagenda says that the trip will take TWO hours. Does it mean that the train will be running slower then others? Or do they probably means that the trip will take 2 hours both ways? By the way, I am intersting is the time the trian will pass above listed stop both on the CI bound and Manhattan bound trip. Thanks |

By the way, in ters of spotting - local stops have a pitfall. In case you take pix from an opposite platform. Let's say you are taking pictures from an opposite platform, while an ordinary trains comes on your platform and obstructs the vision, just in a moment train of your interest passes. So I guess that the best choice in the Kings HIghway. Believe me, I done all those metals when I was a student. I even remember R38s were on B line (West End) when I lived in Borough Park. As of R11 I've seen it in museum, ...that's not a point. Now I want to see R11 and R10 outdoor. That's a point. |

The C was high seniority then because it ran rush hours only (one trippers) except for a few job that handled the Rockaway Pk. Shuttle.More fun as a c/r. Had one for my qualifying run on the A. Round trip Far Rock. On the way down the c/r was sound asleep by 59, and we started around 9AM. On my own went o/s in the PM rush on a slant at Canal. Lite to Euclid and got an R10 to Far Rock & back. Door trouble that the MM said he would handle at Rock Blvd. Cold as a mother that night. |

So we got a double load on a half train from Church to 179. I was thrilled to get a 4 car R44 on the second trip. Finally when t/O's we're working as c/r's, I had a D job uptown MTW. When I finished a CC one trip special to Euclid pulled out of the yard with a switchman. When no c/r showed I did the trip. |

I rode them many, many times on the Abbott. For three years, every Saturday morning started out with a trip on an Abbott from 42nd St. to 14th, then changing to a Lonesome Larry to Brooklyn. The CPW express dash was the ultimate joyride. You'd be at full speed halfway through 72nd going nb and from there it was Katy bar the doors. I'd give anything to uncover some RFW footage from that era. |

If I remember correctly there were about 100 R10's still in service by then on the C and Rockaway Park shuttle lines. They were given a cleanup and partial overhaul to allow them to run long enough for replacement new cars to be delivered. They were all painted dark green.
