If I remember correctly there were about 100 R10's still in service by then on the C and Rockaway Park shuttle lines. They were given a cleanup and partial overhaul to allow them to run long enough for replacement new cars to be delivered. They were all painted dark green. By the end of 1989 they were retired from service.
