Even though the Transit Museum had selected R-10 car #2959 for their collection, and which eventually went to the scrap line, no one made the real push or effort (make that no loud noise) in convincing MTA NYCT to set aside any amount of R-10's for a museum train. During the Kiley-Gunn administration, the agency was not interesting in preserving and/or maintain any or more retired cars into the TM's collection.Lots of lament came much later after the fact. It even did not help matters that even most of the remaining R-10's, including those graffitied and of the non-GOH units, were being sent in a hell bent way down to Cross Harbor in Brooklyn, then out via car float to New Jersey, and for its final disposal with their car bodies ready for scrap. In other words, there was just no real voice to save any more R-10's, and thus no campaign to get a museum train. Thus, they were doomed for their ultimate end. And so it goes... -William A.
