They should definitely save the R14, but I think the R12 should be a parts car since they already have R12 5760 at the TM (unless RPC looks to preserve 5782). |

I don't see 7267 being saved. 6895 could be saved, but like Friday said, it's been exposed to the elements. Now I could see parts from both cars being used to bring 7486 back to life, but that's a stretch. |

For a time, it had track space inside the inspection barn at Mosholu Yard and was later put outside at CCY and forgotten.I reported on the old Subtalk about how 6895 was moved to Mosholu with the Jerome Based R33ML Cars. It was the north operating motor in that consist. With that car stripped I can't see it making a miraculous comeback. 7486 is beyond hope and so is 7267. 7267 is missing the anti-climber on one operating end. Forget it! -Stef |

And there was a strange smell of newness, perhaps it was the plastic/ fibreglass finishings, the rubber moldings. Never knew what it was but the R27/30's had it for a long time, while the IRT cars did not.I can identify with that. As a kid, I used to ride my bike up Newkirk Ave. to the Brighton Line station overpass to wait for my dad who returned from work at the Post office. I used to ride along side him as we went home together. My first sighting of a new R-27 was a Coney Island bound (QT) Brighton Local that had pulled into the Newkirk Ave. station. The cars were brand new, olive paint gleaming and shiny aluminum window drop sashes along with brightly lit green fluorescent destination signs. The newness of the paint smell wafted up to the overpass. Compare this scene with the bad old days of the 70's when these cars were silver/blue and covered with graffiti. Bill Newkirk |

The R30 museum supply pair at 207 Street Yard, 8481 and 8522 - what's the deal with these? Are they also due for scrap or are they sticking around for a while? If these cars are supply cars for the museum fleet, then they must be storing valuable, irreplacable parts to get the old gals running. I'm sure there are dedicated staffers who will not have slept sleep well knowing these impossible to find parts whether working or not went out instead of being saved to restore other similar failing parts. Sometimes it takes the hiring of one incompetent individual who is given power that goes to his/her head and this is the result. I sincerely hope this jerk is happy with his/her job performance and one day when they desperately need to run another P.R. train like a MOD, Duke Ellington train or other special event the museum gets the power back to tell this idiot to phuck him/herself. I'm convinced it is one party and not a department that makes the choices. CED and RTO I'm sure don't regret providing the coverage, equipment and crew for these trains. Budgetary concerns, it is easier and cheaper to install another 2CY than it is to weld on new brackets, piping and wiring to accommodate another model with more man-hours, and if it is material sales incompetence, it wouldn't have taken long to find a scrap motor from their Westcode junk left after the R44s left to make the scrap guy happy. For years they threw away copper and steel in the regular garbage before they realized their own guys were cashing in on scrap like some of the ones they recently fired. It is either shop politics, incompetent management, or something was coincidently wrong with all three 2CY pumps, a reason I highly doubt. Unfortunately, it is a sign. Get used to it. 95% of the work force got things done like restoring 1300, getting motor power back to the Low-V and painting cars. But the one or two persons who either doesn't give a damn or are stupid enough to throw away decades of museum progress got new jobs. They would have been fired if they took a real civil service exam for trainmaster or motor instructor. |

That is true although the Q runs express in Manhattan it is local in Brooklyn. I would prefer that the route run the way it did pre-Chrystie (express in both Manhattan and Brooklyn on weekdays) when the B is running and let the B make the local stops instead. That was a nice ride (as was the N) when the R-32's were new in the mid 1960's. |
