I'm sure there are dedicated staffers who will not have slept sleep well knowing these impossible to find parts whether working or not went out instead of being saved to restore other similar failing parts. Sometimes it takes the hiring of one incompetent individual who is given power that goes to his/her head and this is the result. I sincerely hope this jerk is happy with his/her job performance and one day when they desperately need to run another P.R. train like a MOD, Duke Ellington train or other special event the museum gets the power back to tell this idiot to phuck him/herself. I'm convinced it is one party and not a department that makes the choices. CED and RTO I'm sure don't regret providing the coverage, equipment and crew for these trains. Budgetary concerns, it is easier and cheaper to install another 2CY than it is to weld on new brackets, piping and wiring to accommodate another model with more man-hours, and if it is material sales incompetence, it wouldn't have taken long to find a scrap motor from their Westcode junk left after the R44s left to make the scrap guy happy. For years they threw away copper and steel in the regular garbage before they realized their own guys were cashing in on scrap like some of the ones they recently fired. It is either shop politics, incompetent management, or something was coincidently wrong with all three 2CY pumps, a reason I highly doubt. Unfortunately, it is a sign. Get used to it. 95% of the work force got things done like restoring 1300, getting motor power back to the Low-V and painting cars. But the one or two persons who either doesn't give a damn or are stupid enough to throw away decades of museum progress got new jobs. They would have been fired if they took a real civil service exam for trainmaster or motor instructor. |
