Anybody that rode the nostalgia train back then should also have that proof as well. |

Interdasting.I remember that service disruption. A and C service was truncated at 34th St and the Q train was extended north from Rock Center to 207th St to cover for it. Lots of R38's on the Brighton line, a very rare sight. |

R-10's were also featured in the opeming titled sequence of the short-lived TV series "Serpico" starring David Birney, where a train was closing its doors on him at 57th Street-6th Avenue. Also, look in the early part of the original 1974 film "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three", there is a slight glimpse of an R-10's end (as seen coupled to an IRT R-22) at the station [Court Street] acting as Grand Central on the Lexington Avenue Line.-William A. October 20, 1988 CC/Pitkin was using about 4 to 5 GE R10 sets left IIRC because they were retired completely the next month. They were being retired when I entered school car but the Green R10s were running after so I got some handle time on them. I worked them both as conductor and T/O. Right before the asbestos disaster and the Willy B closures they were using GEs for shop transfers, yard horses at 207 while the Green Machines found their way into A service and fortunately for me into the newer 145 service. Although 5 trips to WTC was somewhat grueling, I'd have a much better day in green than running "in the red". I liked them a lot for the short time I got to play with them. Especially the air doors. |

Mostly dead cars brought them down. They didn't have the flat spots the Green cars did. I understand they stuck the overhauled cars with the leaking NYAB rotary screw compressors because the R68s were going to get them but I think the older ones would have been just fine, just slow air buildup. |

Film would be very nice if it only had sound. I am always asked for video when I post up audio clips but truth is I didn't care for pictures and video as much as I favored HEYPAULS method of preservation. The thousand words to me is worth more than the picture representing it. I wish Heypaul had access to a model Marantz PDM-201 stereo recorder or something similar back in the 70s, or at least I got mine a year sooner. Hearing 6398 stopping on iron brake shoes in that Guardian Angels movie with its compressor starting gave me motivation to get something saved to run, not just to look good in pictures |

Film with audio is rare from that era, but you never know when one will pop up these days. After all a video taken in 1986 with sound exists showing SMEE cars in action during that time period before they were either retired or rebuilt. As for audio, I have bought several audio recordings that feature the BMT Standards, Lo-Vs, R9s, ME-1s, H&M's Black Fleet, and London Underground stock in the late 1970s. Hearing those audios gives me an idea of how things were back in those days. Sadly I haven't been able to locate any site that sells audios of the R10-R30 cars yet. I hope to find audio of the MP54s, New Haven EMUs, or New York Central's pre-war EMUs while I'm looking around. |
