Dingmans FerryYou know, I'm amazed that they don't drive into New Jersey and hit up a park and ride. Cross the bridge into NJ, then US 206 to NJ 15 and either backtrack a bit to Mt Arlington, or further up I-80 and US 46 for MSU. Even private parking at Dover would work out. |

Needing to get some time away from your family is a normal enough emotion. Most of us don't want to admit it, but I think many people feel this way at times. Doesn't mean you don't love them--- it just means that you need some time away from demands placed on you, from whichever boss. |

At 67 with memories of helping to raise a couple kids and occasionally harboring a couple others when they wanted time away from parents, I have some sympathy. That said, I generally am not interested in long commutes to a job site. |

And that early train is forced to run local on the Bergen County line. There's really no reason any Port Jervis train should make any stops in NJ north of Secaucus. |

Hell, ShortLine has a 305a departure from BINGHAMTON, that some people use to 'commute'.....Lou: I didn't know that there was anyone still living in Binghampton, must less commuting from there. Those people are closer to Canada then Selkirk is. I did look up that schedule. The trip takes three hours and forty five minutes. You double that and add is to the time of the workday and your out of the house for at least 18 hours. Thanks for the news. I haven't heard anything about Binghampton since the "Lake Cites" stopped running. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Binghamton's 184 miles from Gananoque. If closer, then not that much.Too bad the Phoebe Snow made so many stops in New Jersey in the 50s (stopped at Newark, Brick Church, Summit, Dover and Blairstown) and more stops in PA; it would have been way faster to Binghamton than the bus. The Erie Limited in 1951 made twelve stops in between Jersey City and Binghamton, too, running at an average speed of 33 mph . . . makes Amtrak seem fast. |

That said, I generally am not interested in long commutes to a job site.It depends on what constitutes tolerable. Traffic free long commute with numerous alternative routes for spirited roadgeeking*, yes that's tolerable. Sitting in two hours of single digit speed traffic, awful. Sitting on a Comet bench seat for four hours, no, that just sounds awful. Sitting in Regional with a seat that reclines for a four commute, that's definitely doable at the right price and income. *One could argue that the locations we're talking about had this option nearly one to two decades ago due to smaller population counts... |

I have learned through experience that on your typical commuter train, the cap for a comfortable ride is 3 hours. Anything more than that and your extremities begin to throb without getting up and walking around. The first time I went out to Montauk, on the way back, I was actually in pain. Ask Lincoln, he was with me. |

With all the MLV's out and about, NJT doesn't seem to want to use the PL42's on the PJ route, leaving those 7-car consists with Geeps. Talk about sluggish. |

A nice way around that would be if Woodbury Commons had a shuttle meet *all* the appropriate Metro North trains, and get the MTA to add it to the schedule (like the PATH connection in Hoboken). This would have the desired effect of increasing the number of people in the area without actually requiring their approval.*I said all the trains because I recall a shuttle that met a 10:30AMish arrival and 6PMish departure only, useless for us since we wanted to meet the 2PMish departure. |

Consider yourself lucky that you don't have to do what I do almost very year. Flying economy for 14-16 hours each way. But in turn I get to ride the trains in Japan (and meet family too). |
