All true, but this is from 1924, which is before any construction would have been done. Unfortunately though, the only next image is 1956, which would be way after....we need the 30's or 40's! |

Again, this doesn't prove anything either way, but "if" there was to be a long forgotten subway station somewhere in the city, "this" is a place it "could" have happened. |

It's obvious that the realignment happened some time after 1924, but before 1956, but that's 32 years, and that's a long timeframe yet. As for construction photos, even on the street, they are so hard to come by as there was nothing really there at the time, so no one probably took photos. When there's construction through a more developed area, people take photos. Through "emptiness", not so much. |

I really believe that the realignment of Pitkin into Old South Rd was "probably" done when they were planning to put the subway through there. They wouldn't have jogged the subway up 100 feet just to go back 100 feet 3 blocks later, so "if" they were building the subway, it would have gone straight through. If the land was all broken up anyway, why not make the road go through too. But then again, there would "have" to be records somewhere. The city would have had to take that triangle of land through Eminent Domain or something, "someone" had to own that new ROW of Pitkin Ave for those three blocks before the city did. |

Above ground, Yes.Below ground, countless times, as an A train passenger with my nose flattened on the railfan window. To the Pitkin Yard, once when track replacement was being done in the Hudson Ave area. Trains were being run on the center track, into Pikin, reversed direction , then run to Euclid. All of this is nothing compared to your time, and range of movement. I just suspected the mall route, because of its width. |

Me too, since my home stomping grounds and took care to get it while I could. Only moved about 2 miles away, but there is no station shell at 212 and Hillside, nor at Springfield and Hillside. The glass disks on 212 and Jamaica are (a) rare, and (b) typical of what was put over sidewalk vaults. This responds to the theory that the route shifted from Hillside to Jamaica at 212th Street. Hollis Court Blvd. was wider and would have been a better choice for a subway; but then Moses would have had to be careful extending the Clearview to points south. Since I lived in Hollis at the time, what happened in Bellaire/Queens Village didn't concern/interest me at the time, it was light years away even though only a couple of miles. But I'm glad, now, that those people in the area dug in their heels and said, this far and no farther about the Clearview (great road for speeding though; straight and relatively flat!). Otherwise I would be just about living on the service road of the expressway extension. |

Looked concrete to me; but I'm not breaking out my subway gear to go back there and investigate. One of our junior train operators can report back when the make a relay there. |
