If we can get 20 of us who want to know...I'll kick in $25 to find out!

Hey, how about this...we get 10 who say something is there, and 10 who say nothing is there. We all kick in $25 ($500 total)...and based on the results (if conclusive)...the losing team pays the winning team their money back.

(I'm sure the $500 was just a rough estimate)

its been tried 2 times in the last 20 or so years by t.a.employee`s.you can see the marks in the wall.its 3 blocks thick with cement poured in the holes.I tried digging under the wall several years ago, made some progress than sand filled in what I had dug out.eyewitness accounts aren`t hearsay, they are an oral history.

Frankly, nobody has done any research because we have nothing to go on. To put this to rest, consider this:

1) Unearth missing construction photos of the station (if they exist)

2) Produce any records, be it NYC or Transit Authority that the station was built.

3) Follow Selkirk's advice and rent the damn radar sled after taking up a collection. Let's see if we can squeeze some greenbacks out of some Subtalkers !

Other than that, we're talking this to oblivion of what might have been or what someone saw.

Pics or it was never built.

Pretty much any place which supplies equipment for surveyors. Maybe Uncle Fred can suggest a few places. The equipment consists of radio equipment on a sled along with a laptop on which the display shows what's down there. You need to calibrate it, set the desired depth settings and how the display shows what you're looking for. You want someone who knows how to use the equipment since if something's found people will be bitching about the accuracy to the inch anyway. :)

Perhaps someone already in the business can be pursuaded to volunteer a weekend in exchange for an eclectic writeup in Gothamite or NY Times. A story like this is something that could easily be pitched to a newspaper editor with a sideangle of "them zany subway buffs and their conspiracies." If there really IS a will, this can be done.

In any event why is that one track shorter than the others?

All four tracks end at the same wall. Track A1 is shorter because the location of the switch connecting Track A1 to Grant Avenue and the subsequent reverse home signal protecting it is closer to the wall.

I believe it's there.
But, I believe it is under the mall between North and south Conduit.

I beleive it was to stay beneath thw mall untill it reacher Sutter Ave, then edge towards the eastern portion of Pitkin Ave.

Google the area, and follow the roads.

It could be. See the grates between the Pitkin yard and Grant Ave Station on the grassy mall.

I'm not sure what NYCT inspects or doesn't inspect. Depending on the status of the area in question it may never have been officially transferred to the B of T or NYCTA and therefore it's custodianship may be in question. The old Polo Grounds Shuttle which was under the NYCTA at the time of abandonment was sealed at both ends and AFAIK has never been inspected by any agency since that time.

That has nothing to do with the difference at all! The wall at the end of tracks actually changes contour and the tunnel infrastructure at A1 tk does not permit the track to be any longer. The actual distance on A1 track between the switch to K1 tk and the wall is physically shorter than the other three tracks. I've been down there several times over the years since 1962 and that's the way it's been since that time.

Well for one, South 4th was a PROVISION for expansion. 76th St, if built, is NOT a provision, but actual construction, as it would have been built as a continuation of building the line further, which they were planning to do. South 4th was just a provision for the future, 76th would be part of actual continuation of the line they were building.
