I posted everything that I remember about this, you haven`t.how much "hands on"research have you done?I.E.going into towers, layup tracks yard leads etc.for the record i,ve never been beyound the cinderblock wall.if I were we ALL would know about it.as far as water still leaking, rediculous!it would have collasped the wall.I,as well as many others await your responce.since nobody has posted on this your credability is ZERO.

Nobody is disputing that there are towers and layup tracks in the area. That proves nothing. Sorry, but the burden of proof is on the person making the assertion that something exists, otherwise I can say that there's a china teacup ride down there and you would have to accept it unless you can disprove it.

We all know the board exists in the tower, the yard leads, and all know that the tracks led to there. The controversy is not that it was planned to be put there, the controversy is whether it actually IS there.

Skepticism is the default position on extraordinary claims for which no evidence has been furnished. You are making the claims, therefore you need to provide the evidence. You know what evidence looks like, namely one or more of: a photograph of the station interior, copies of some documentation relating to the construction works (it isn't enough just to claim you've seen them), or a geophysical survey of the relevant section of Pitkin Avenue. So show us your evidence.

Your challenge is specifically irrelevant on these grounds:

since i,v been posting hear,at lesst 5 years& in all that time not one of them has posted their expertise in this matter, why not?

This is the argumentum ad verecundiam. And that's not to mention the arrogance of it.

.how much "hands on"research have you done?I.E.going into towers, layup tracks yard leads etc.for the record i,ve never been beyound the cinderblock wall

As you have yourself demonstrated, that line of research quite literally runs into a wall. It would be a futile waste of time to replicate it. But I'm glad you enjoyed leading your tour party down there.

as far as water still leaking, rediculous!it would have collasped the wall.

Evidently not. Perhaps they used good mortar.

I,as well as many others await your responce.since nobody has posted on this your credability is ZERO.

No, the argument from silence is a stupid argument here. And the only person whose credibility is damaged by your attempt to invoke it is you.

And although formally it makes no difference to your arguments' validity (or lack thereof), you would probably find people better-disposed toward your posts if they were easier to read. You could achieve this by starting each sentence with a capital letter and ensuring that you put at least one space after periods.

Steve: You and I had this discussion a while back and while I do not doubt your sincerity or veracity I have to say that the jury is still out on this one.

Let me ask you some specific questions though.

1) Assuming that the tunnel structure east of the bulkheads was built, what form of construction was used? Was it cut and cover or deep tunnel boring?

2) If the station at 76 Street was built were any stairways ever constructed up to the street level and if so how long were they there for before they were sealed up?

3) I believe that you told me that you spoke to someone who ran a work train into the station. Do I recall this correctly? If so was it hauled by diesel or electric?

4) Also am I right in assuming that the station never ever had any form of revenue service?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Larry, RedbirdR33

You brought up some very interesting questions that not only pertain to 76 St but to other unfinished stations on the IND that we do know are definitely there. Were there ever any provisions for exits at street level at either So 4 St/Bway or Utica upper since I don't think passengers would have been expected to go to the lower level platforms at those stations to access the existing stairways to the street. Also although stairways might have been built from the platform level at 76 St to the mezzanine level, the ones all the way to the street level may not necessarily have been broken through since if they had, I would imagine that there would be some residents of the area who lived there at the time who would have noticed some sort of construction for them even if there were only openings without railings at the street level.

larry,I can only assume it was cut&cover as I have seen construction photos of the A line coming from ENY to liberty ave in an 2 or 3 year old copy of era`s bulletin.it was cut-n-cover.the transit musuem`s construction photos of the yard leads are cut-n-cover.the stairway to the mezzanine& [I assume]the street are sealed up from the platform.it was the pump train,I didn`t ask if it was diesel or electric.none,as I have posted so many times before the only tracks that were laid towards the station were A7[it bumper blocks before the station]& A8 which I do not know where it ends.the station is only framed out towards queens, the city bound part is only partially built.BTW,did you have any trouble reading this, because I didn`t use CAPITOLS.what a stupid thing to say.

No evidence has been presented. All we have is word of mouth accounts, plans that they were going to build this station, the station and tracks on the board at the tower (which was built as part of the contract with the station planned).
That's not evidence of the existence of the station, that's evidence that they most definitely PLANNED to build it. No one is disputing they were planning to build it.

No one wants to believe this more than me, but there is NO evidence it exists. None at all. Until then, it's no different than believing or hoping ghosts exist or an afterlife. We have no more evidence of either of those either, no matter how much we would want them to exist.

What is interesting is that the C/R who told me he was in there said that he rode in on a long relay from Euclid although I don't know why that would have been the case since the only place a train returning from A1 S/O Euclid is back to A1 in Euclid station. It could be that the track did go as far as the station and the train going in there was being used as some sort of rail polisher. What lends a little credibility to the idea that A1 track did go that far is that the concrete wall that is currently in place zigzags so that A1 track as about 50 ft shorter than the other 3 tracks at that location preventing a full 600 ft train from being stored there. It sort of begs the question as to why the wall at that location is not even across all 4 tracks so that a full length train could be laid up there if required.

The four mainline tracks A1 thru A4 did not extend past the bulkhead even if the trackways did at one time. Would that be a correct statement?

At that time the population density was so low in the area there would have little traffic to disrupt. Don't forget, few people owned cars prior to WWII when the subway infrastructure was actually built so that's another reason why there would be little traffic to disrupt. Most of the people living along Pitkin Ave up to Euclid would have been using the Fulton St el as their principal means of transportation and beyond Euclid, the number of residents along Pitkin dropped sharply then.

It's very simple.

No one on this board has any information other than hearsay to substantiate that the station was built rather than just planned.

Also, no one has any information that proves the station was never built.

For example, someone could rent a backhoe and start digging up Pitkin Ave in the neighborhood of 76th Street and as long as they didn't cut an electric, sewer, gas, or telephone line they probably wouldn't even be arrested, tried, convicted, and sent to jail for 3 years.

Someone could start digging, but no one has. Someone could sneak into the tunnel and start picking at the cinder block wall with a hammer and chisel, but no one has.

The end.

Wow...yeah, I see that now. The actual post is there, but it was edited and that part removed. Amazing, simply f**king amazing. Well, we all know what he said, and I for one will remember it!

...what about that, "Call before you dig"? Is that *just* for utilities? What if you wanted to dig a 2 or 3 story basement and sub-basement there?

And for the umpteenth time, dragging a $500/day rental of a ground-penetrating radar on a sled back and forth across the street along the route would either prove or disprove the entire thing. No holes needed!

It can SEE that far down, it can tell if there's concrete, rock or sand at various depths and if there's iron at depth below the piping, that too would show up. So simple and yet so distant an option.

Yes, but that gives him no right to attack you for it. He is too disrespectful :(
