Tuscarora Almanac for September 5

1885 – from The Book of First Runs

The Lexington Avenue El is extended from Gates Avenue to Alabama Avenue.

1937 – from The Book of Service Changes

New schedules are put into effect on September 5, 1937 cutting the length of Sunday Broadway-7th Avenue Expresses (today’s Rt. 1) from ten to seven cars. Previously Sunday morning express trains had been cut at Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum with half the train going to New Lots Avenue and the other half to Flatbush Avenue. The reduction in train length means that this will no longer be possible so trains will alternate between the two terminals.

1961 – from The Book of Last Runs

This is the last day of operation of the BMT Multis. There were twenty five of these five - section articulated units. Ten (7004-7013) were built by the Saint Louis Car Company. Fifteen (7014-7028) were built by the Pullman – Standard Car Manufacturing Company. They had been the regular equipment for the #13 14 Street - Fulton St Express until 1956. After that they were assigned to the # 10 Myrtle Av - Chambers St Line. Units 7021 and 7022 made the final run.

1970 – from The Book of Strange and Unusual Occurrences

R-16 6382 was coupled onto the end of a train of IRT cars running up the ramp from the IND Concourse Yard on the IRT Jerome Avenue Line. There was some damage to the station platform and a signal was knocked over.
