Also on this date in 1967, I rode at the RFW for the frst time, on a old timer D from 47-50th to 59th. It took some time before I started riding up front full time, but the view was great. Then at 59th, we switched to the s/b platform and were supposed to hop an Abbott back to 42nd St. Now, I didn't KNOW then that that train with the racing stripe scheme that was sitting on the express track was an A. I didn't know about the roofline side signs on the R-10s. We let it go, and as the last car went by, I saw the big A above the storm door and said out loud, "What luck! THAT was an A train!" A CC pulled in and we took it instead. It was my first ride on a CC, and I have my sign box signed appropriately for the occasion. Since CC trains terminated at Hudson Terminal in those days, my lower destination sign is set for Hudson Terminal. |
