Since when?

In the past there were QB's, QT's, TT's, QJ's, RJ's, RR's, N's, NX's, M's, MJ's, plus there were also AA's, BB's, CC's, EE's, GG's, HH's, KK's, LL's. Then there were roll signs with MM's, V's, W's, and other variations of terminal pairings for many routes.

The designation M-train had NOTHING to do with the fact that Manhattan was a borough that was served! Never did!
