In the short run, I think R service will get worse.ENY does not have any equipment CIY needs (R32, R42, R160 as only 8 car sets). So they have to hit only Pitkin, Concourse, Jamaica, and Coney Island for shop margin. If Jamaica Yard is short 1 train set some AM rush, they'll whack an R frequency rather than an E or F. The other alternative is to cut AM rush service everywhere. Seems most lettered lines need 1 or 2 more trainsets in the AM rush than the PM, That inefficiency could just mean they have to make do with as many sets in the AM as they get in the PM. With reduced switching between local and express tracks in the 42nd - 49th Street areas, we'll see how much improvement in R reliability that brings. I suspect, not much. |
