Instead of the Q cutting in north of 34th it will be the N. The only real difference is that instead of a merge happening just south of Prince (with the N), the merge will probably be much more controllable at Whitehall with the W (more controllable since the W is originating there).Going south, the R currently should not be held up at 42nd because even if it is behind a Q the Q has no competition in diverging to the express track. After the changes, the N will have competition with the Q in this regard. In exchange, all of the Prince St drama will be eliminated. The number of merges doesn't change, but hopefully the convenience of one of those merges being with the W train at Whitehall, which should be an easy blend in, makes things a little better. It's a shame that there seems to be no feasible alternative to the Bay Ridge service going to Forest Hills. If it can only be restructured. . .but I can't figure out a good way to do it. |
