I'd love to have a system where the N-train was all express in Brooklyn and Manhattan - and did not at any point share its tracks with the R-train. For that I'd have to go back to the 1970's before the fiscal crisis with the RR having an almost free reign on the trip through Manhattan, and the N-trains ending at 57th Street-Seventh Avenue.The bad part is that to do that, I'd have to bring back the EE, the blue M, the short-turn rush hours only R-trains to Chambers Street.
