We have a non-chain Italian (mainly pizza) restaurant down the street from me and I've never been. They are one of the last vestiges left from when the area wasn't mostly Mexican. I've really been wanting to try it, but always forget and call Pizza Hut instead. |

Many blacks live in the part of Brentwood that's south of the train station along Fifth Avenue. Some of that area may be considered Bay Shore, I'm not sure where the dividing line is.interesting you say that because I have friends on Ellery St in Brentwood and their section is mostly black, then, when you get near the railroad tracks all the way on south, it's all Hispanic. And you can see the change just by looking at the businesses, which are all criminal and immigration lawyers, storefront churches, and lots and lots of bodegas. |

They are not as evil as some of the detractor's say, however, I do agree, there's nothing like mom and pop places. What I don't like about chains is just what you say, they have to follow the set guidelines, and can't sway from them. You always know what you will get, and while that probably saves you from the "bad" meal, it also stops you from getting that unbelievable experience you get at some mom and pop places too. Also, there's no swaying from the rules at the chains either. A bartender for example can't (generally) just offer you a buy back on a beer, as they can get in trouble (although some do it anyway on the downlow). At a mom and pop place, there's way more leeway to make decisions. |

Yes, the ice cream is excellent at Friendly's, I have to agree. As for the food being "worse" 5-10 years ago, I have to take your word on that, as it was not all that great back then, and I haven't had it in many years, so that may be the case. If I am going to go that route and eat non-breakfast food at a chain like Friendly's (or Denny's or Ihop for that matter), then I may as well go to one of the bar/grill chains like Applebees or Ruby Tuesday then where the atmosphere is better in my opinion. |
