I think more neighborhoods are dirty because the new residents don’t clean the place like the old timers did. And that’s a fact.

You need two people in the van nowadays. The porch pirates have graduated to grand larceny level van stealing.

Yep! Part of the European work ethic (spread to their American-born kids). In my neighborhood, the Norwegians, Germans, Italians would be sweeping, tidying up the airyways and stoops and sidewalks every day. About 2-3 times a year, the stoop and airways got scrubbed and soaped down, and fences painted when neede. Now, the Chinese who replaced them luve like pigs, they brought the 3rd World here!

I agree. Older generations took pride in where they lived. They expected to life out their lives there. The folks that live in those neighborhoods nowadays are just passing thru and most could care less.

Not necessarily. A lot of immigrants do intend to live in their places long term unless those places are terrible or just too small for a family. I think it's sort of cultural, that many poor immigrants are used to dirty streets, so they don't care much about what they do in the streets.

They still haven't caught whoever vandalized tge church statue in Fresh Meadows.

3 teens, and NYPD has great photos of them. It was covered by every major newspaper and news station yet they avoid being caught.

My now-former job referred to it as "teleworking". I didn't partake, as there were too many hoops to climb though. Then the Chinese Crap pandemic started and everyone was in effect teleworking. From late March 2020 until around September, at that time, we started coming in one day a week. It was staggered, so there was still social distancing (i. e., if there was 2 people working in a cubicle, each person worked in person on a different day (I had a cubicle to myself, so wasn't an issue for me). Sometime in early 2021, it went to 2 days a week. Finally in June 2021, everyone came back full time to the office (the once-a-week teleworking program still continued for those who chose to). I retired on 6/30/21.

I’d say NYC neighborhoods are by nature temporary. The old timers cared about how the place looked and made effort to have their property and even businesses in a clean condition. The modern replacements not so much. And I can say this because I’ve seen a great change in the little Bronx neighborhood I’ve spent the past decade in.

Folks used to literally sweep up the sidewalks and curbs in front of their homes. Now very few do it. Dog shit every other house. Cars parked for months and months at a time.

Yep! My neighborhood where I grew up is an open sewer, fruit, rotten seafood, garbage, filth. Sidewalks illegally blocked, people selling shit on the sidewalk like I'm in a 3rd World street market. Now, of course when I was there, it wasn't like that, except on the more Puerto Rican blocks.

True. And they are also very lax in the fall sweeping their leaves. Others on my block blow them into the street. Only a few (like Mrs. BfM and me) sweep them up for proper disposal.

Dog shit is not picked up if no one is watching them. How do I know? Because I see them looking around to see if the coast is clear or not.

Homes have multiple cars, most times one car leaves and another will move just enough to block off 2 spots till the first car returns. On my block, don't look for a spot after dark.....you won't find one.
