I hope so. The American system (before and after Obama care) is very complicated, but not in such a way as to encourage competition or keep down costs. The single payer system works reasonably well in Britain and in Canada. In all conscience, I must add that in a recent hospital visit in Canada, what I saw was a system dedicated to rigid enforcement of rules, without much regard to patient comfort. Also there was no easy way to correct errors without going through an elaborate bureaucratic procedure. In my case the hospital failed to provide my with my usual medications on which I am dependent. It took four days to correct the error, causing me to suffer unnecessary pain and to stay in hospital three days longer than should have been necessary. |

I don't recall asking you not to use expletives, I think I was talking about attitude and anger, but I don't remember where we were back there as to what. I'm sure terrapin can find it and offer appropriate commentary on it though, he's got an obsessive thing and that'll keep him busy for a while. We're in New York out here and expletives are part of the vernacular out here for most folks, no harm no foul. I work in insurance, have been for over 20 years. Satisfaction with coverage does not end with costs alone. There are other factors such as customer service and efficiency when paying claims. People get used to certain insurers and are familiar with their claims processes. Tearing them away from these companies and sending them to others they know nothing about doesn't serve the best interests of the public. |

It shouldn't take Captain Obvious to point stuff like this out. "Arab socialism/Islamic socialism" came out of national socialism (Nazism) and the Islamists freely admit this. Even people like Nasser referred to themselves as national socialists, and Nasser wasn't even as radical as the Muslim Brotherhood was back then! |

Here's how it all came down. America took care of Israel and that gave the Russkies the opportunity to endear themselves to the Arabs. Things like this happens when you choose sides and don't try to work with the OTHER side as well. Sorta like what you do.Picking sides highly limits your options, and lets the other guys work against you. Some of the world is beginning to learn this. Mandela was one of those who did. |

If we had worked with Germany to make the reparations payments less onerous at the time, Hitler wouldn't have had a battle cry for Germans to rally around. But we weren't a "superpower" at that time either. Britain was. One of the obligations of a superpower is to act as a mediator BEFORE things get out of hand. Now back to where you were, you're talking about the Arab nations embracing communism. Did they HAVE another choice? Were WE willing to help them work things out? No. Instead, we fed their leaders who made their lives miserable, and in doing so pushed them into embracing that and radical Islam as well. I know to your mind, trying to make peace is a sign of weakness, but the alternatives can be far worse. |
