I think the argument here is whether Brentwood warrants a "name" that is much worse than other neighbourhoods. Crime statistics are misleading, because there are density effects, underreporting in neighbourhoods with high fraction of undocumented residents, as well as a well documented racial bias in the Suffolk police force. These are difficult questions and I am not sure anyone has the definitive answers. For me personally, I wouldn't live in Brentwood, but then, there are lots of places I wouldn't live in, and not for crime reasons alone. I doubt I would want to live in Flushing, for instance. |
