Two additional points:

1. The Times article rather lazily accepts management's quote about "9 weeks of paid leave." It turns out this consists of 5 weeks vacation, 2 weeks of sick leave, and 14 vacation days. This is hardly out line for factory workers in this country.

2. We will never know if the unions would have agreed, in a normal collective bargaining process, to givebacks on this or other benefit and wage issues. That is because, as the NLRB found, the company refused to bargain in good faith, and improperly declared an impasse.

So this can hardly be characterized as unions destroying a thriving company.
