Pulling a Terrapin, are you?I should have said "had" instead of "has." So it's a writing problem. But you're so hyper-literal that you were unable to understand what others had no problem getting. Since you've completely failed to understand nuance and context, I'll go over it with the hand-holding I'd normally reserve for Terrapin. 1. I pointed out that Chanukah is commercialised and involves presents and festivities. 2. The turtle himself declared that to be wrong. 3. I pointed out that I received Chanukah presents, ergo Chanukah presents must exist. 4. You insisted that my Chanukah presents were, in fact, Christmas presents. 5. I pointed out that they were actually Chanukah presents, and remarked on the antisemitism contained in your insistence that the givers of the gifts don't count as Jewish. 6. You reiterated your previous assertion that they were, in fact, Christmas presents, and stated explicitly that Chanukah presents don't exist because gift-giving is not a Chanukah tradition, then declared that I would know this if I knew anything about Judaism. 7. I asked if you were Jewish, considering that you made sweeping pronouncements on what Judaism entails to someone more than passingly familiar with the very subject. 8. AlM pointed out that one can be knowledgeable on the subject of Judaism without practicing it. 9. I pointed out that it's moot, as you are clearly not familiar with Jewish customs and traditions (in America, at any rate). In the process, I snarked that you denied the existence of the Chanukah parties I attended. 10. You took that snark completely literally, because you were unable to understand what others had no problem getting. 11. I explained that the snark was, in fact, a snark based on the fact that you denied the Chanukah presents, the tradition of giving them, and the Judaism of the givers. 12. You tried to backpedal and claim you meant that gift-giving hasn't historically been a Chanukah tradition, even though that makes no sense in light of 1, 2, and 3 above— I pointed out that I received Chanukah presents, therefore Chanukah involves commercialism and presents today and what it may have involved in centuries past is irrelevant to that point. You also put scare quotes around "Chanukah presents," perhaps because you would like to cling to the assertion that they are somehow actually Christmas presents. 13. And then a great hammer came and hit him on the head. So yeah, looks like I've understood everything perfectly, but you're simply confused. Either that, or it's just part of your asshole act.
