I echo Gold's sentiment. It behooved the MTA to see whether New Flyer or Nova could offer a better product than Orion. Not to mention where the heck would you get the funds to pay for such a major purchase? Also, when you have such a big order it means that in the future you will need to replace them with a big order and have the entire fleet age at the same time which is awful for maintenance

The first 270 buses would of been Orion VII 3G clean diesels, not 90. The upcoming order would of been the same 1300 buses anyway you look at it.

Also, what makes the Orion VII 3G a superior bus to the New Flyer XD40 or Nova? With Orion going out of business who would have finished the contract and provided warranty services? The MTA wisely made orders from each manufacturer to be able to compare how each fleet would perform under the demands of the MTA. Do you want another DesignLine fiasco?

Orion needed bus orders and this would of been a great deal for them. Besides, from what I heard, the Xcelsiors are having problems with their evaluations, which is why the 690 order is being delayed, Again. Despite teething issues with the BAE technology, the MTA never truly had any major problems with the Orion VII so far. Would they of bought as many as they did if they had?

MTA does have problems with Orion VII CNG, right now.

Every TA has problems with their buses one time or another. The Orion VII CNGs are over due for a rehab/repower.

The 2003 CNGs are ten years old, what do you expect? That's why they along with the 2004-2005 CNGs are going into rehab. Not sure if they are still going to be repowered.

There were many road calls in Orion VII CNG. Reliability... The C40LF were certainly better then Orion VII CNG

Well, we can both agree on that. The C40LFs also had many road calls (I remember seeing one break down on the B43 back in 2002-2003).

CONSEQUENCE:
THIS CAN RESULT IN A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT AND THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
REMEDY:
DETROIT DIESEL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPAIR THE ENGINES BY REPLACING THE LOW PRESSURE REGULATOR GASKET WITH AN IMPROVED GASKET FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 7, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DETROIT DIESEL AT 313-592-3708.

ON CERTAIN COMMERCIAL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH VAPOR DOOR ASSEMBLIES, THE TWO PIECE CURVED CONNECTING RODS WHEN USED AS AN ELEMENT OF THE DOOR ACTUATION LINKAGE IN CONJUNCTION WITH A VAPOR MEDIUM PNEUMATIC DIFFERENTIAL ENGINE, MAY BE SUBJECT TO FATIGUE FAILURE RESULTING IN BENDING OR BREAKING OF THE CONNECTING ROD.
CONSEQUENCE:
A BROKEN CONNECTING ROD CAN ALLOW THE DOOR PANEL TO MOVE FREELY IN AN UNCONTROLLED MANNER, LEAVING PASSENGERS INSIDE THE VEHICLE UNPROTECTED BY THE DOOR PANEL AND ENABLING A PROTRUDING DOOR PANEL TO STRIKE PERSONS OR OBJECTS OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE.
REMEDY:

IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE FIRE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM ROOF ENCLOSURE REMOVED OR OPENED, THE FUEL CONTAINER'S PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICES MAY NOT ACTIVATE AS THEY ARE DESIGNED TO DO AND THE FUEL CONTAINER COULD RUPTURE AND EXPLODE. SUCH AN EXPLOSION COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH TO OCCUPANTS OF THE BUS OR TO PERSONS OUTSIDE THE BUS.
REMEDY:
STRUCTURAL COMPOSITES WILL NOTIFY THE ORION BUS OWNERS. STRUCTURAL COMPOSITES HAS NOT YET PROVIDED THE AGENCY WITH A FINALIZED REMEDY. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT SCI AT 1-909-444-2503 OR ORION AT 1-905-403-7832.

How about the diesel Orion VIIs? Since most Orion VIIs is some form of environmental friendly bus, we should include the 2011-2012 #7000 series buses.

I'm not bashing the C40LFs, I like them too, but you are making it seem that the Orion VIIs are the worst buses in the system (which they aren't). Besides, all those reports you posted are from 8, 9, 10 years ago, so that's not really valid. Remember the 2009 Designlines? Those were teething issues.
